Jeffrey F. Rayport is Managing Partner of MarketspaceNext, a Dynamic Strategy firm that partners with clients to accelerate growth by integrating deep insights into customer experience, emerging media and technologies, and business strategy.
Jeffrey is a founding faculty member of multiple corporate universities, for companies such as Omnicom, Bertelsmann, and Amgen. He has co-authored a series of MBA textbooks on digital strategy (McGraw-Hill), and a bestselling book on strategy for multi-channel service businesses (Best Face Forward, HBS Press).
Jeffrey was formerly a faculty member at Harvard Business School, where he created the first e-commerce course in the United States. He introduced “Managing Marketspace Businesses” in 1994 and taught more than a thousand MBAs. Student business plans resulted in many start-ups, including Yahoo! While at Harvard, Jeffrey coined the term “viral marketing.” He also became the first faculty member to be voted Outstanding Professor by the Harvard Business School student body three years in a row.
Currently, Jeffrey serves as a corporate director of Andrews McMeel Universal (closely held); GSI Commerce (NASDAQ:GSIC); International Data Group (closely held); Monster Worldwide (NYSE:MWW); and Valueclick (NASDAQ:VCLK). His past directorships include Agency.com (NASDAQ:ACOM); Be Free (NASDAQ:BFRE); iCrossing (a search interactive services agency acquired by Hearst Corporation); and CBS MarketWatch.com (NASDAQ:MKTW).
In the non-profit sector, Jeffrey is a Trustee of the Peabody Essex Museum; and Chairman of the Board at From the Top, Inc. (a classical music radio and TV show featuring gifted young classical musicians distributed nationally on NPR and PBS).
